The Council has two film and video discussion programs that ask the
question: "What does it mean to be a West Virginian?" These discussion
programs include videos and an adult discussion guide. These guides provide background
information, practical advice for setting up a discussion, and a series of questions that
can help the discussion get "off the ground."
A Discussion Guide to West Virginia: A Film History
This film and guidebook examine West Virginia history by helping the
viewer/reader focus on the different people making their homes here. Who lived in our
small towns and countrysides, and why did they come here? What did they want for
themselves and for their communities? What would they think of our communities today? West
Virginia: A Film History is available at your local public library. The guides are
available from the Council. Just contact us.
Mountaineer Circles
This series of films and guide considers Appalachian stereotypes.
The three WNPB-produced films -- "Mountaineers," "Gilligans
Appalachia" and "Farmer" -- explore the roots of the Appalachian
stereotype in a very entertaining and eye-opening fashion. The films and guides are
available at your local library. The Council provided a minigrant for the development of
the discussion guide. If you have questions about Mountaineer Circles, call WNPB at
800-672-9672.
