Our Writers

Nearly 600 freelance writers contributed to The West Virginia Encyclopedia. They came from all parts of West Virginia, from throughout the United States, and from other places as widespread as Germany and British Columbia. These writers shared a deep interest in West Virginia and represent many fields of knowledge. They include journalists, folklorists, archeologists, naturalists, geographers, historians, university professors, public servants, and others. They produced 2,200 alphabetical entries, the depth of their collective expertise justifying the Encyclopedia slogan, "All there is to know about West Virginia."
