Journalist Penny Loeb lives in Lincoln, Va. She is a former senior editor at U.S. News and World Report and a former investigative reporter for Newsday. She has received numerous awards for journalism and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. In 1997, she wrote the first national investigative article on mountaintop removal coal mining, which eventually led to her book, Moving Mountains, the story of a decade of struggles over both deep and surface mining in West Virginia.
