BABE RUTH

(1895-1948)

Baseball Player

George Herman “Babe” Ruth was a superstar whose style personified the “Roaring Twenties.” He played large and lived large. Known as “The Sultan of Swat,” “The Bambino,” and simply “The Babe,” Ruth remains perhaps the greatest name in baseball history. He overcame a difficult childhood to become the home run king whose drawing power lifted the sport after the betting scandal of 1919 and made Yankee Stadium known as the “house that Ruth built.”
