JENNY LIND
(1820-1887)

Opera Singer

More than 30,000 people greeted European opera star Jenny Lind, “The Swedish Nightingale,” upon her arrival at New York City in 1850. Her concert tour of America was promoted by none other than P.T. Barnum and she performed to packed houses across the land. One of the country’s earliest celebrities, her great popularity resulted in an array of products that carried her name. Widely acclaimed as one of the most gifted artists of the century, she was also greatly admired for her support of many charitable causes.
