Osborne Perry Anderson

(1830-1872)

Of the five African-American members of John Brown’s raiders at Harpers Ferry in 1859 only Anderson escaped and remained free. In 1861 he published the only eye-witness account of the raid and its preparations, A Voice from Harpers Ferry. Anderson was active in the abolition movement and during the Civil War served with the U.S. Colored Troops.
